About United States Artists
United States Artists (USA) is a new non-profit organization dedicated to direct financial support of America’s finest living artists. USA launched in the fall of 2005 with a generous support from the Ford Foundation, Rockefeller, Prudential and Rasmuson Foundations to total $20 million. These seed monies have leveraged a major national fundraising initiative.
United States Artists operates from the premise that art can be the impetus for building enormous stores of social, political and economic capital in the 21st century. It also affirms that individual artists have always been an important cultural resource, offering a lens through which we recall our past, perceive the present and envision our future. Finally, it recognizes that the needs of American artists today are extraordinary.
USA is committed to quickly addressing these needs. A robust organization is envisioned with a 100-year horizon, reaching across five generations and providing artists’ fellowships, partnerships and mentorships. In the next five years USA launches with an exciting and aggressive set of programs. Distributing significant grants to a diverse array of our nation’s best living artists quickly, efficiently, and with minimal expense is a top priority.
