HIV/STD YOUTH PREVENTION EDUCATION SPECIALIST

IMMEDIATE OPENING
The Girls Youth Empowerment Project is an HIV/AIDS and violence prevention education project, designed to serve females, ages 9-16 in the Los Angeles and surrounding communities at a nonprofit organization. The purpose of this project is to influence girls towards developing safe, positive and healthy lifestyles, free from HIV infection and violence.
Responsibilities include:
1. Assist in preparation for weekly sessions (reviewing and revising weekly lessons, getting appropriate materials, preparation/planning, etc) and HIV/STD curriculum development.
2. Co-facilitate weekly sessions (includes supervising and assisting youth with activities, dealing with behavior issues, etc).
3. Participate in weekly staff quality improvement meetings.
4. Co-facilitate weekly tutoring and enrichment activities (and assist in management of project mentors and volunteers).
5. Weekly correspondence with parents/guardians via phone about project events (reminder calls for special activities and weekly sessions, follow-up calls with individual parents).
6. Develop and co-coordinate weekend outreach activities (i.e. field trips etc).
7. Develop an Individual Education Plan of personal and professional development goals.
QUALIFCATIONS:
• Must demonstrate skill and ability in health communications with young girls, service coordination with local organizations, and interpersonal relations.
• Bachelor’s degree from four-year College or university in a health related field.
• Experience working with diverse populations.
• Experience with HIV, health and youth related projects working with girls ages 9-16.
• Working knowledge of MS Office Word Processing software.
• A passion for working with urban young adults is a must.
• Strong personal networking and relationship-building skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills.
